RICHMOND, Calif. - Richmond Police, along with the city's SWAT team, raided a Pennsylvania Ave. house early Saturday morning and arrested 18-year-old Larry Pratcher, in connection with the murder of recent Concord (Calif.) De La Salle graduate, Terrance Kelly, who was shot in his car in Richmond's Iron Triangle neighborhood late Thursday night. Kelly was parked on the street awaiting for the son of his father's girlfriend to come out of a friend's house, when he was shot multiple times in the chest.
Richmond Police did not immediately disclose details about the investigation, only to say that they have received help from the community and are continuing to do so. Police are still investigating Kelly's murder and looking for a motive.
Pratcher was being held on Saturday in the Richmond city jail on $2 million bail and was slated to be transported to the Contra Costa County jail in Martinez later on in the day. Police did not convey any connection between Pratcher and Kelly's death, but did say that they were still investigating what role Pratcher may have played in Kelly's death.
Kelly, who graduated from De La Salle this past May, grew up in Richmond with the care of his father and grandmother. When her grandmother heard news of her grandson's death, she collapsed and was hospitalized for a heart condition.
While at De La Salle, Kelly was a linebacker and tight end for the nationally recognized football team, which currently has a 151-winning streak that dates back to 1991. He was considered to be one of the nation's best defensive players.
Having received a full football scholarship for the University of Oregon, Kelly was scheduled to leave for Eugene, Ore. on Saturday morning along with a few fellow former De La Salle players who were joining him on this year's team.
On Friday, members of the De La Salle football team gathered in the campus chapel for an impromptu service. Official services are still pending.
